Jim and Bret Collaboration

Jim in Sep 2007:

I wanted to let you know that a song that I wrote and produced for Bret Michaels (lead singer of Poison) will be played on his TV show "Rock of Love" this week. (apparently) - it will be in the final episode. The song is titled "Fallen".

Bret Michaels
says :

VH1: Have you written any songs based on your experience on the show?

BM: Here’s what happened when I was writing the lyrics – I did this song with a friend, Jim McGorman. I started writing this song, but I didn’t have a chorus. [Jim] came in and had a chorus written from years earlier, so we melded the two songs together. Once I finished the song up and started to finish the lyrics, it was right after Rodeo left, and I was setting in the house, and all the sudden I had this feeling of what you would say to somebody. What’s going on in that moment in your life I express best when I’m setting alone writing lyrics. While we were filming, we finished the song.

Jim in March 2007: I just  finished working in the studio with Poison and legendary producer Don Was. We did a new record of covers. It was a really fun and cool experience. Not sure when that will come out. I played keyboards and sang.

Jim in Sep 2008 :...it is still a thrill  for me - since I grew up listening to Poison.

When I tried out for a spot as the background vocalist and keyboardist for Poison, for example, a portion of the audition was conducted via phone. First I went to C.C. Deville's house. He got Bobby Dall on the line and asked me to sing along to a Poison record as Bobby listened from his home in Florida. They just took my word that I could play the keyboard parts. The rationale, C.C. explained, was "when it comes to Poison keyboard parts, it's not Rachmaninoff."

Q: Can we assume it was a little different being on the road with Poison?

Jim: Poison took a lot out of me. It was one of the hardest tours in my life. I don’t drink alcohol and I never did drugs. Being around that scene was tough. I share the tour bus with (lead guitarist) C.C. (DeVille) and (bassist) Bobby (Dall). It wasn’t easy to be on that bus.

And those guys wouldn’t have hotels in the towns they played. They’d sleep on the bus and shower at the venue. That’s how they would save money.

They epitomize rock’n’roll debauchery. There was strong element of party from, basically, 6 p.m. to 2 o’clock in the morning. And it was always 1988, from music to fashion to the people at the show.

But it was awesome to play the songs I listend to in high school and to be in the same room with them and have their respect.
